A knife-wielding gang’s robbery of a man in Logan involved threats to chop his fingers off and false documentation that he sold them a $17,000 car, a court has heard.

Marsden’s Jessica Anne Dempsey, 25, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on December 16, 2022 to armed robbery in company with personal violence.

The court heard that on January 25 Dempsey borrowed a friend’s car and when she returned it, it was damaged and had cracks in the sidescreen.

She told her friend she would get it fixed and pay for it and he didn’t need to contact the police about it.

Five days later on January 27, Dempsey met him in Marsden to discuss the issues with the car when she arrived with two other men and a woman, who approached the man with knives and punched and assaulted him.

They forced him to stay in his bedroom for two hours and threatened to cut his fingers off.

The court heard the group also forced the victim to sign a statutory declaration which stated he had sold them the car for $17,000 and took the car.

The victim suffered a cut to the lip, bruises to the head and his wallet and mobile phone was taken.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said his was an extremely serious and violent offence.

“You were a party to this offending as you enabled the others to commit these violent offences,” he said.

“You lured him to this place where he was bashed and his property was taken.”

Dempsey was sentenced to three years in prison with an immediate parole release date.

She had already served 305 days of pre-sentence custody.
