A Logan Village construction worker has appeared in court after a night of “total stupidity” when he broke into a Waterford bowls club to load up on stolen booze only to get nabbed by the cops about half an hour later.

Jayden Leigh Moss, 20, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to eight charges including entering premises and committing indictable offence by break, evasion offence and four counts of possessing dangerous drugs.

Police prosecutor Tahlia Boettcher told the court Moss and another male co-offender broke into the bowls club bar at Palm Lake Resort in Waterford and caused some $3280 in total damages about 4.50am on December 31, 2020.

“They smashed their way into the glass fridge unit within the bar and removed a large quantity of alcohol,” she said.

“The offenders used a black plastic bin to carry stolen alcohol from the victim business.”

She said the offenders were located by police at 5.20am along Hinchinbrook Ave, Bethania but they denied having anything to do with the break-in.

Police observed that Moss had a bleeding injury on his hand and forensic examinations later confirmed droplets of blood left at the scene of the break-in belonged to him.

The court heard Moss had also been charged in relation to an incident where police responded to reports of numerous vehicles hooning along Magnesium Dr, Crestmead on November 22, 2020.

Police prosecutor Tahlia Boettcher said police observed a Holden Commodore registered to Moss had been driving on the wrong side of the road at speed and failed to stop when directed to.

The court heard Moss denied he had been driving the car and knew who was but refused to tell police who it was “because he wasn’t a dog.”

Police also conducted a search at a property in Munruben on October 20, 2020, and found a bowl of chopped up GBM, CBS and GML and a diner plate with four lines of white powder.

Moss, who had been at the property at the time, stated that the drugs were his for personal use.

Moss’ lawyer told the court had been using cannabis as pain relief after being in a quad bike accident in 2016 and said he was now seeking to secure a prescription for medical use.

She described the break-in offence as “total stupidity on his part” in the lead up to New Year’s Eve.

Moss was sentenced to an 18 month period of probation and was disqualified from driving for two years.

He was also fined $6892.50 for the evasion offence and ordered to pay half of the $3280 restitution amount owed to the Palm Lake Resort. No conviction was recorded.
