A Woodridge tattoo artist turned serial car thief says he hates what meth has done to his life since he began using at age 14, a court has heard.

Jai’Aaron Michael Robson, 22, pleaded guilty at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with 10 charges, including two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving disqualified and stealing.

Police prosecutor Sgt Stephen Cochrane said Robson was caught in two stolen cars on October 10 last year and had been on parole at the time for similar offending.

The court heard that he was busted in a stolen Chery J1 car and drove off without paying for $50 of fuel on October 10.

The same day, a 2006 Camry was stolen from a hotel in Waterford, that Robson was identified as a passenger in.

Magistrate Terry Duroux said he had a “disgraceful” criminal history for someone so young.

The court heard he was convicted for a number of charges, including the dangerous operation of a vehicle and unlawful use of motor vehicles in Beenleigh last April.

Defence lawyer Katherine Hanson told the court her client had been using methamphetamines from the tender age of 14.

“He’s been struggling with that addiction for many years, his whole life,” she said.

“When speaking with him, he instructs he hates the addiction and what it’s doing to him and wants to get clean.

“Promisingly, he’s been clean since being in custody, and he acknowledges that’s a good start for when he’s released.”

Magistrate Duroux sentenced him to two years imprisonment with an immediate parole eligibility date, and the 187 days he spent in pre-sentence custody was declared time served under the sentence.

He was also disqualified from driving for four years.
