A Logan mother has applied for bail after being charged with stabbing her partner while drunk and on prescription medication during a “toxic relationship”.

Ellen Nancy Rose Leese, 29, applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 2 charged with one count of wounding (domestic violence).

Police alleged that on June 16 in Bahrs Scrub Ms Leese stabbed her boyfriend before calling police to report it.

Defence lawyer Gemma Lawless said Ms Leese was in a toxic relationship with her partner which influenced her alleged offending.

“She was drinking and taking prescription medication at the time and reacted very poorly,” she said.

“She doesn’t necessarily have an issue with alcohol but is aware of the dangerous combination of alcohol and prescription medication such as Zoloft, Temazepam and Valium.”

The court heard the mother of two used the medications to treat anxiety, depression and PTSD.

“Ms Leese instructs me she acted in self defence and when she phoned police after the incident, she made admissions and stated she acted in self defence in fear for her life,” Ms Lawless said.

Police prosecution told the court the alleged offences were serious as well as violent and argued there were no suitable bail conditions that could be imposed.

The court heard Ms Leese would be pleading not guilty to the charges and a trial date would take up to two years to be allocated.

Magistrate Terry Duroux denied bail and said her alleged offending was concerning.

“It seems as though Ms Leese is in a toxic relationship and there has been an issue in relation to alcohol,” he said.

“Her alleged behaviour has escalated to an unacceptable level and in my view there are no bail conditions that can be imposed.

“She is an unacceptable risk of committing further offending.”

The matter was adjourned to August 28. A brief of evidence was ordered by August 30.
