A Logan teen who allegedly killed his girlfriend’s cat during a wild dispute, has been scolded by a magistrate as he applied for bail in court.
Dustin Connor Baker applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 19, charged with one count of serious animal cruelty (domestic violence offence). No plea has been entered.
Police allege that on February 15 in Marsden, the 19-year-old Marsden man grabbed his girlfriend’s cat and flushed it down the toilet.
He then allegedly pulled it out of the toilet and kicked it twice hard across the room.
Police allege Mr Baker’s girlfriend heard the commotion and came running out to see blood splattered across the walls.
The cat died, allegedly as a result of the attack.
Magistrate Pamela Dowse was visibly frustrated when she heard the matter in court.
“It’s just sick, does he have a brain at all?” she said.
“He should not be allowed near any animals at all.”
The court heard Mr Baker had no criminal history.
He was granted bail under strict conditions he must not contact his girlfriend the victim and must not be near any animals or pets unsupervised.
“I’m granting you bail, I don’t want to but I am,” said Magistrate Dowse.
The matter was adjourned to April 10 and a full brief of evidence was set to be ordered by March 25.
