A Logan man was busted with an horrific collection of child abuse photos, including victims as young as one year old, after a major overseas investigation into child pornography networks.
Beenleigh District Court heard that an IP address and email belonging to Marsden’s Andrew James Lang was uncovered in the investigation.
It came after Queensland police received a report in December, 2021, from overseas investigators about downloading of child pornography from a peer-to-peer network.
Police searched the 56-year-old’s home and found a terabyte hard drive, Apple phone and desktop computer containing horrific images of naked children.
Lang had 512 pictures, mostly of pre-pubescent girls including some as young as one, the court heard.
He used online file sharing website NippyFile.Com to find the material, the court was told.
Lang pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court to possessing or controlling child abuse material and using a carriage service to access child abuse material and child pornography material.
Defence lawyer Chris Minnery said Lang was searching for a business online when he stumbled upon the child pornography. He reported it to search engine Google.
“He accidentally found a child pornography website and continued to access it, but Mr Lang instructs me he was not attracted to the images,” Mr Minnery said.
The court heard Lang had no criminal history and had collected and accessed the images due to boredom and loneliness.
Judge Craig Chowdhury slammed Lang’s behaviour, saying there was no excuse for it.
“Normal, healthy people do not access child pornography,” he said.
“Despite what I have heard, the obvious explanation is that you were attracted to the images.
“As a Judge in this district, I go every week dealing with matters similar to this.
“Most of the time it is lonely, older men who find themself accessing this material.”
Lang was sentenced to 15 months’ prison but was to be released after serving three months.
He also had to sign a good behaviour recognisance order.
Lang would then need to be on a period of good behaviour for two years and not reoffend.
