The victim of a heinous, serial domestic violence offender has bravely shared the traumatic impact her partner’s horrific attack had on her life.

Beenleigh District Court heard on May 10 that Danijel Sedonio Brazer had been in a relationship with a woman for four months leading up to the incident.

On May 8 last year he called her derogatory names before pushing her on to a couch and pulled her hair, the court heard.

The victim was on the phone at the time to her support worker and begged them to call the police.

Shaking with fear, she then sent two more text messages asking them not to call the police as she was scared of Brazer.

He went into a bedroom, grabbed his partner’s pepper spray and sprayed her in the face, causing her to cough and her throat to burn.

He also threatened to shove the pepper spray down her throat.

In a victim impact statement tendered to the court, the woman spoke of her emotional battle and trust issues which had developed as a result of Brazer’s behaviour.

“I have problems going outside my community and seeing men of any age. It makes me anxious,” she wrote in the statement.

“I feel traumatised. I have lost my freedom, feel unsafe and don’t like being on my own around people.

“I don’t feel like eating, have lost a lot of weight and this affected me socially.

“He (Brazer) checked my phone regularly and I felt I could not do anything right. I felt like I was living inside a shell.”

Brazer’s ex-partner said her “giving personality’’ was affected by his cowardly actions.

“I’m the sort of person who likes to help others but my ability to help others has been taken away from me,’’ she said in the statement.

“I can’t go outside and can’t trust men. I’m not the person I was before.”

Brazer pleaded guilty to common assault and administering poison with intent to harm, thereby endangering the life, or doing grievous bodily harm (domestic violence offences).

The 40-year-old Logan Central man also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of weapons.

The court heard Brazer had a history of domestic violence and previously pretended to be a woman’s 14-year-old son to abuse her over the phone while she was in hospital.

Judge Carl Heaton sentenced Brazer to two years’ prison, with immediate parole release.

He had already served one year of pre-sentence custody and was paroled for one year.
