A Logan concreter who attacked a police officer during an argument, in an effort to defend his home, has faced court.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday, November 7 that police were called to a disturbance at a Logan Central concreter’s home on October 10.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Donna Cole said Coen Vincent Smith stopped the officers from entering his home.

“Police knocked on the front door and Mr Smith opened but refused to speak to them,” she said.

“He stood out the front and said nobody is coming inside, he then shielded the door to stop police entering his home.

“Officers eventually entered and Mr Smith pushed an officer in the chest with both hands and resisted arrest by putting his hands behind his back.”

The 31-year-old concreter pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and two counts of obstructing a police officer.

Smith was self-represented and told the court an argument with his wife’s sister got out of hand.

“I’m a father of four and everything I do is for my children, this just got out of hand,” he said.

“I accept responsibility and just want to get back to providing for my family.”

Smith had no criminal history and was fined $300, no conviction was recorded.
