Bathroom fittings high-roller Lindsay Sinclair has unveiled plans for a mega mansion on a prominent site on the Gold Coast’s own “millionaire’s row”.
Mr Sinclair, founder of well-known bathroom fittings company Highgrove, has lodged plans with the council to build the palatial four-level home on the corner of Hedges Ave and Alfred St.
He bought the site, which has sat empty for more than 12 years, from developer John Potter in 2018 for $4.6m.
It comes four years after the council refused plans for a three-storey house on the same site because it had a “dominant and imposing visual appearance’ and insufficient setbacks”.
However, documents lodged with the council this month argues the new proposal is “distinctly different”.
“While an increase in height is proposed above nine metres it occurs for a small portion of the second floor and roof terrace,” the report reads.
“Most importantly, the proposed dwelling is of exemplary architectural design, providing a combination of sophisticated and visually interesting architectural elements, materials, colours and textures to create a refined, modern, and attractive architectural appearance.”
According to plans, the new mansion will have four levels, including an underground basement with space for four cars, a “man cave”, wine cellar, and a lift shaft which runs across the home’s levels.
The ground level will have an entry foyer, lounge and guest bedroom, with the first storey to have a study and three bedrooms, each of which will have an ensuite.
The second level will have a kitchen and living rooms while the third above ground level will have a roof terrace.
The plans will be considered by the council’s planning committee later this year.
