A MAN put his hands around his mother’s neck and squeezed because they could not agree on how to pick his grandma up from the floor.

Lee Ronald Eric Fox pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court yesterday to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

Crown prosecutor Matt Hynes said Fox was at his mother’s place on Boxing Day in 2018 when his mother asked him to help get Fox’s grandmother off the floor.

Fox, 33, then began to argue.

“This led to him putting his hands around her neck,” Mr Hynes said.

The woman was left with red marks on her neck.

Judge Catherine Muir sentenced Fox to 18 months prison with immediate parole release.

Fox had spent about five months in custody.

“This is serious, violent offending, unprovoked and committed by you on your mother,” she said.

Judge Muir said she was concerned because the incident occurred while Fox was on probation.

The court was told Fox’s mother had been an alcoholic and verbally abusive when he was growing up.

Fox plans to move in with friends in Caboolture upon release.
