A young man who lost his life in an accident on Smith Street is being remembered as a “beautiful and humble” person.
Kyle Bermudo died after being hit by a car near the intersection with Village Blvd at about 11.10pm last Friday.
The 21-year-old was crossing the road when he was hit by the vehicle, a Hyundai Veloster.
The driver of the Hyundai, also a 21-year-old man, wasn’t physically injured in the incident.
However he was brought by ambulance crews to Gold Coast University Hospital suffering from shock.
A GoFundMe appeal has since been set up by family friend Maraea Henshaw to help Kyle’s family pay for funeral costs.
“(They are) the most beautiful and humble family you could ever meet Kyle and himself was exactly that,” wrote Ms Henshaw, who said her son had been Kyle’s best friend since primary school.
“He always approached me when doing my shopping and asked how his friend is doing.
“This family has been through so much recently, losing so many loved ones around them and I just can’t imagine the pain they are feeling.
“All I’m asking if we could help these guys out towards funeral costs and taking time to grieve their poor baby boy/brother and maybe just take some of their financial burden off them.”
Kyle will be laid to rest at a service in Ashmore next week.
At time of writing, $4700 had been raised to help his family with funeral costs.
