Jestar strike: Gold Coast flights cancelled

More than a dozen flights to and from the Gold Coast this weekend have been cancelled by Jetstar due to strike action. SEE THE LIST OF FLIGHTS AFFECTED

A TOTAL of 15 flights to and from the Gold Coast this weekend have been cancelled by Jetstar because of strike action.

Around 44 services will be cancelled across the country on Saturday and a further 46 on Sunday during the four-hour stop-work periods.

Jetstar says passengers due to fly on the cancelled Gold Coast flights will be rebooked on alternative services, with the airline saying it expects to get “95 per cent of affected customers” away the same day.

Gold Coast Airport general manager Brett Curtis urged everyone travelling with Jetstar over the weekend to be ready for disruption to their travel plans.

“We would encourage Jetstar passengers to keep in close contact with their airline about any possible flight disruptions,” he said.

“Jetstar has been proactively communicating with its customers about any impacts.”

The two-day strike by the Australian Federation of Air Pilots is over a pay dispute.

Pilots wanted a deal that would see their pay increase by 15 per cent in its first year.

“We’re going to accelerate trams to the airport”

Jetstar chief executive Gareth Evans said the strike was “completely unjustifiable and cynically timed to hurt travellers at the busiest travel time of the year”.

“To protect the weekend plans of tens of thousands of customers, teams across Jetstar have worked around the clock to develop a proactive contingency plan,” he said.

“We expect to get 95 per cent of our customers on their way on the same day

“Any customers travelling from 13 December to 20 December can also request a full refund prior to flying.”
