Friends of a Gold Coast marathon runner who remains in a critical condition in hospital have honoured the beloved husband and dad with a fitting tribute.
Elanora dad Camryn Lloyd, 29, collapsed at the 36km mark of the Gold Coast Marathon on July 2 and went into cardiac arrest.
Kim Ferguson ran the 10km fun run and Ellie Gill did the half marathon on the Sunshine Coast earlier this month for Cam’s Next Run fundraiser.
The initiative will see friends run various marathons across the country to raise money for Mr Lloyd’s family.
Ms Ferguson’s four-year-old son, Atlas Tryhorn, raised $200 for the cause during his first fun run.
He held a sign which read: “We’re raising money for my mate’s daddy”.
“There are a lot of people who are thinking about him daily and hoping and praying that he gets better,” Ms Ferguson said.
“I think about him a lot when I’m running.
“Recovery for Cam is going to be a long road.”
He remained in a critical condition in Gold Coast University Hospital as of Tuesday, more than seven weeks since the race.
Mr Lloyd and his wife Savannah have a young son together.
“They’re honestly one of the most beautiful couples and young families you’ve ever met,” Ms Ferguson said.
“Cam is a very dedicated dad. He’s always doing some sort of physical activity or sport, he’s a loving husband, a social worker and everyone who knows him loves him.
“We are simply hoping to help raise some more funds for Savannah and their son to financially assist them during this time and through the next 12 months.
“Regardless of the outcome, it is going to be a very hard time.”
To get involved in Cam’s Next Run, professional and amateur runners can compete in their next race in honour of the beloved father.
“Simply share that you are dedicating your next race to Cam with your wider community and ask them to donate to Cam’s cause and wear something purple in your next race,” Ms Ferguson said.
“Purple is Cam’s favourite colour.”
All money raised will go towards an online fundraiser set up for Mr Lloyd’s family.

The Elanora dad was one of two men who collapsed during the 42.2km Gold Coast Marathon.
The other man, 34-year-old French national Florian Galley, died in hospital shortly after the race.
Mr Lloyd had competed in the marathon to raise money for the West Bali Orphanage, a cause close to his heart after his family volunteered there last year.
