5km fun run winner Olga Firsova

The female winner of the Gold Coast Marathon weekend's 5km fun run Olga Firsova says she had "unfinished business" this year – in 2022 she was the event's runner up.

The Russian Ukrainian based on the Sunshine Coast blitzed the 2500 strong field's female contingent in 15 minutes and 43 seconds, beating her goal time by seven seconds.

Ms Firsova, living in Australia for three years since relocating during the Covid pandemic, said she never aims to win races but just to beat a time: "I have a time in mind, it's my strategy and takes the pressure off.

"I am always just competing with myself. I'm very happy – I beat the goal. And after last year I felt like I had unfinished business."
