Bikies in Australia: A short history

Alleged Mongols bikie Harley Barbaro is helping to expand the barber shop franchise he manages in Brisbane.

Barbaro has been managing the Black Canvas Barber Shop in Carina since it opened in August 2020, and is now promoting an opening on the Gold Coast.

The 29-year-old is not listed as an owner of the barber shop.

In June last year the Windaroo branch of the franchise was destroyed by fire.

Accused Finks bikie boss Tayne Clarkson is alleged to have started the blaze.

He is still before courts in relation to the alleged arson. He is yet to enter a plea.

Barbaro, who lives in Arundel, began posting Instagram stories on February 15 about a Black Canvas branch opening “soon” on the Gold Coast.

It is linked to a Black Canvas Gold Coast profile, which has posted Instagram stories but has no permanent posts.

The profile simply says: ‘Blvckcanvas GC coming soon” in all caps.

A story posted on February 25 said: “PSA. For some unforeseen circumstances we have delays on Location for new shop & will post updates ASAP”.

That same day Barbaro was in custody and appeared in Southport Magistrates Court for an alleged serious assault.

Barbaro’s lawyer Campbell MacCallum was asked about the Gold Coast branch of the barber shop.

He replied: “No comment.”
