What would a stage 4 lockdown look like for Australia?

GOTHAM grill and rooftop bar is closing permanently and will be replaced by a famed Coast steakhouse.

Cav’s steakhouse will be moving to the 6 Bayview St, Runaway Bay venue on October 28.

Cav’s owner Richard Cavill told the Bulletin he was excited for the move but was sad to see another Daniel Ridgeway restaurant close.

Gotham is the second of The Ridgeway Group’s restaurants revealed to have closed in as many weeks, following news Broadbeach’s Rivea was now home to Pat Gennari’s restaurant Maggie Choo.

GOLD COAST’S MOST SURPRISING RESTAURANT TRANSFORMATIONS

Mr Ridgeway, who also operates a catering business, has been one of the Gold Coast’s most prolific restaurateurs.

The chef opened his first restaurant Little Truffle at Mermaid Beach, followed by BiN 12 Burleigh Heads, BiN 72 Coolangatta, BiN 232 Pacific Fair, BiN 89 Broadbeach, Rivea and Gotham.

“We (Ridgeway Group) have always wanted to have restaurants spanning the Gold Coast,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin ahead of Gotham’s opening in 2018.

“The northern end was next on our list and we knew it had to be special.

“Gotham Grill and Rooftop Bar was chosen as Gotham was a nickname for New York City over a century ago.

“We love the architectural elements of old New York City, so we have added exaggerated elements of the style into the venue.”

Mr Ridgeway has previously spoken about the challenges of operating in the Gold Coast’s “saturated” culinary scene.

“As to whether this kind of growth is sustainable, the dining scene is booming and overall the quality of product and fitout is outstanding,” he said at the time.

“There are a lot of restaurants opening.

“Too many? Yes, I think maybe there are. But it’s trial and error as to what’s working and what’s not.”
