Police have released the footage of a dramatic arrest on the M1 involving a man who was allegedly driving a car dangerously with stolen vegetables on-board.
A 36-year-old Chambers Flat man has been charged after allegedly driving dangerously on the M1.
Gold Coast police spotted the Logan man allegedly driving a 2009 Ford Focus with false registration plates in the northbound lanes of the M1 near Robina at 10.20pm on Monday.
Police began pursuing the car before it began shedding debris from under the engine bay before catching fire.
A Gold Coast police statement said the Chambers Flat man then pulled the car over near the Gooding Drive exit before being arrested.
One of the other officers had to use a fire extinguisher to stop the flames under the bonnet of the car while other motorists sped past the scene.
Luckily no one was injured during the incident.
While the 35-year-old was in custody, police searched the car which allegedly had a “significant” quantity of sweet potatoes, potatoes, wraps and almond milk.
It was alleged the produce had been stolen from a fresh-food grocer in Robina shortly before the incident.
The Ford Focus had also been reported stolen from Mayfair Pl, in Stretton (a suburb in Brisbane), in the early hours of May 27.
The Chambers Flat man has been charged with three counts of stealing, two counts of fraud and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, disqualified driving, drink driving, attaching false plates and possessing tainted property.
He was issued a notice to appear at Southport Magistrates Court.
