FEDERAL Health Minister Sussan Ley has met patients before the official opening of the Gold Coast’s new private hospital.
Ms Ley spoke to more than 100 guests attending the ceremony at Healthscope’s Gold Coast Private Hospital which neighbours the public Gold Coast University Hospital at Parklands.
The facility is the first acute private hospital to be built in the city in two decades and the $230 million new base in the health and education precinct replaces the group’s ageing Allamanda Private Hospital at Southport.
The new hospital in Innovation Drive began accepting its first patients last month and boasts just less than 200 clients. It has 284 beds and 13 operating theatres.
Ms Ley told the Bulletin the 2018 Commonwealth Games and developments like the health and knowledge precinct at Parklands had given the city a real boost.
“There’s an air of optimism, a real buzz about the place,” she said.
