A GOLD Coast couple has won a whopping $4.8 million in lotto, which is due to be doled out in instalments of $20,000 a month over the next two decades.

The Set for Life winners took home the division one prize in draw 2173 on Sunday with a five-game QuickPick entry purchased online.

When the couple received a call about their multi-million dollar win from The Lott on Monday morning they initially believed their friends were pulling a prank.

“Is this real? Are you actually a real person?” the woman who will share the win with her partner said.

“Oh my god! Oh my god, oh my god. This is such good news. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Holy moly.

“All of our dreams can come true now. This is incredible. It’s a dream come true.

“I am always pretty lucky with lottery or raffle tickets, so I always thought I would win something big one day. But I always imagined the prize would be $80,000, not $4.8 million. “I need to get my husband. Can you repeat this news to him?”

The husband was similarly shocked. “Holy sh--. Are you sure you’re not pranking us?” he asked.

“You don’t sound like any of my mates, so this must be true. Otherwise, I’d be hanging up the phone.

“There’s no way we’re going to work today now. We are going to go out and celebrate. I think we will be a few kilos heavier after today.”

The couple planned to retire, embark on several holidays and share the winnings with their big family.

“We have a big family, so we will share the prize with all of them,” the woman said.

“We can retire from work now too. We’ve been trying to work out when we could retire, so this certainly speeds things up.

“I can move my dad into a nice place and just make life better for him. That’s the most important thing.

"We’ve saved our entire lives, so now we can use this prize to just enjoy life.

“There will be a few holidays too. For now, it’s just going to have to be around Australia until we can go overseas again.”

Lotto bonanza: Coast winners scoop $1.4m each

June 21: The Gold Coast’s two newest instant millionaires have described their shock $1.4 million Lotto windfalls as “very strange” and “a bit surreal”.

The residents from Currumbin and Tallebudgera held two of the 14 division one winning entries in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw 4165.

Each division one winning entry took home $1,428,571.43 – almost enough to buy a lower end property on the Glitter Strip’s insanely expensive Hedges Ave at Mermaid Beach.

The Currumbin man purchased his life-changing entry online and the Tallebudgera retiree picked up his winning ticket at Spar Express Tallebudgera.

An official from The Lott phoned the Currumbin man on Monday morning as he was settling in to work.

“Oh, thank you” he said. “I honestly can’t quite believe it to be honest. I am over the moon, over the moon. “It feels very strange. I’ve only ever won $40. I can’t believe this. “I’ll be buying myself a new ute to start with.  Then we will be doing a lot of work to the house. Maybe we’ll even put in a pool.”

The Currumbin man had ambitions to travel, but the Covid-19 pandemic means those plans will fall by the wayside for the time being. “If I could go overseas, I would do that too,” he said. “I am quite overwhelmed. This is amazing.”

The Tallebudgera retiree was blindsided when he checked his Lotto entry on Sunday morning.

“It feels so good. It’s honestly a bit surreal. I’m still trying to absorb the news,” he said. “I checked the ticket on Sunday morning. I couldn’t believe it, so I woke my wife up to double-check it for me. We were both stunned. It will certainly go towards our retirement fund. “We will really enjoy it.”

The winners have not revealed their identities in the wake of the life-changing jackpots.

Spar ExpressTallebudgera store manager Shaun Jenkins said he was celebrating too. “This is the first division one winning entry we’ve sold,” he said. “We are so happy that this has finally happened at our store and in our community. “We would like to say a massive congratulations to the winner, may they really enjoy their prize.”

‘Is this really true?’: Man’s $200,000 lottery win

February 16: The winner of the Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw was left dazed following his win of $200,000 on Tuesday.

The Kingscliff man – who wishes to remain anonymous – was notified of his win on Tuesday afternoon and the news left him baffled, questioning the official from The Lott if it was a joke.

According to The Lott spokesperson the winner asked: “Are you serious? So if I go down to the newsagency right now they’ll confirm it?”

“Are you pulling my leg? No way, I don’t know if I believe this.

“Is this really true? This is just insane.

“You’ve really made my year. I am feeling really nervous. This is amazing.”

The shocked winner said he’ll let the news sink in before he making any plans with his new earnings.

“I am definitely going to be doing some celebrating tonight,” he said.

“It will give me some time to think about what I will do with this prize.

“It’s hard to really think about it when it still doesn’t feel real.”

The winning purchased occurred at News at Kingscliff and the owner of the Kingscliff Shopping Village venue Linda Jackwitz said she rapt for the local winner.

“He really deserves this prize and we couldn’t be happier for him,” she said.

“This is the first major win since we took ownership of the outlet, so it’s a big moment for us too.

“We might even be as happy as the winner is.

“I’d like to hope this is the beginning of a winning streak and we can deliver more major prizes to our customers.”

Revealed: Where lotto players have most luck on Coast

Gold Coasters are on a winning streak, with more division one winners in the Saturday Gold Lotto this year than any other part of Queensland.

One newsagency has had two winners in just four months, while there have been 11 further division one winners across the year.

The 13 winners between them scooped a massive $15.8 million.

Carrara Village Newsagency sold the first of their two winning tickets in May, delivering $1.8 million to a lucky local.

In September another person bought a winning ticket at the newsagency.

The Carrara woman was one of eight division one winners for that weekend’s draw and won $621,499.92.

“It was such a shock but the best surprise I’ve had all my life,” the woman said.

“I was at home when I decided to jump online and check my ticket.

“I was in pure disbelief. It was such an unusual feeling. I really couldn’t believe it.”

Carrara Village Newsagency manager Steve Sharman has been at the store for more than a decade and said he couldn’t believe the winning streak.

“People always say we don’t sell the winning tickets but now I can say we sold two division one winners within four months of each other,” he said.

“The only other major winner we’ve had in the 14 years of the store was a Wednesday Gold Lotto win in 2013.

“That was Wednesday though, Saturday is the big one and we’d never had a winner from that until these two this year.”
