A Gold Coast mum has had been left shocked after allegedly finding mystery medication hidden inside a bag of potatoes bought from a local supermarket.

Mother of two Tayla Furby told the Bulletin she found a bright orange pill, believed to be a sleeping pill called Temazepam, inside the 2kg bag of brushed potatoes, bought from Aldi on Robert St, Mudgeeraba in the last fortnight.

It wasn’t until she finished the bag this week that she found the tablet at the bottom, she said.

“I had about four potatoes left and then I looked down to see the pill in the bag with all the dirt kind of over it,” she said.

“I was shocked as I didn’t know what it was.

“I was worried if it had fallen into the floor my 10-month-old could have eaten it as she is putting everything in her mouth at the moment.”

Ms Furby said she was disturbed to think someone may have put it there on purpose.

“I feel like someone deliberately put this in at the store thinking it was funny to them but it’s certainly not,” she said.

“I am horrified that someone could do that.

“I just wanted people to be aware of it just in case.”

Ms Furby claimed she does not have sleeping pills at home and maintains there was no way the pill could have got inside the bag after she brought it home.

She said the supermarket brand had asked her to send in the bag and the tablet for them to investigate.

An Aldi Australia spokeswoman confirmed to the Bulletin they were investigating the claim.

“We were notified of this alleged incident at 4:34pm, on Tuesday 3 September,” the spokeswoman said.

“We are continuing to follow up to validate their claims and further investigate.

“We can confirm this is an isolated incident.”
