GOLD Coasters have been warned to have umbrellas at the ready for the next three days as unsettled weather threatens to make the weekend a washout.
Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain said thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to hit the city for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
“There’ll be an unsettled spell of weather due to a slow moving pressure trough and onshore winds collecting moisture off the coast of South East Queensland,” he said.
A few showers and possible storms are expected to hang around today but they’ll mainly be west of the Gold Coast.

There is a higher chance of thunderstorms tomorrow with 40mm of rain expected to fall.
“There’ll be potentially more depending on the intensity of the thunderstorm,” he said.
Prepare to spend Saturday indoors with an expected 50mm to dampen the weekend.
“Saturday there’s a good chance of seeing the highest rainfall total for the next few days,” he said.

On Sunday a few showers and storms are forecast but into next week the city should see less rain as the trough weakens.
However Mr Brittain said there’ll be little relief from the heat with a top of 33 forecast tomorrow, while Saturday and Sunday will peak at 28.
“But with moisture around humidity is going to be hit so it may feel a few degrees warmer than the actual temperature,” he said.
