Gold Coast Weather: City gets double September rainfall with storms, rainfall on the way

The Gold Coast has already received almost triple last month’s rainfall today – and there’s a lot more on the way over the next 24 hours.

It's not over yet, as storms head north

THE Gold Coast has already received almost triple September’s total rainfall today with more rain predicted overnight and tomorrow.

Already 21mm have fallen across the Gold Coast.

A total 30-40mm is expected to have fallen by Saturday afternoon, with a 95 per cent chance of rain continuing tomorrow.

WeatherZone meteorologist Jacob Cronje said while storms were set to hit further north, the Gold Coast could be affected by offshore thunderstorms.

“At this stage it’s not looking to be severe, but they could bring localised rainfall,” he said.

“I know I’ve been caught in some of those southern storms and the heavens open up, suddenly you’re soaked.”

The rainfall is expected to be most severe between 5pm and 9pm.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a minimum of 14 degrees tonight with showers and a possible storm incoming.

The same continues tomorrow with another 15-30mm predicted.

“You’re going to get really decent rainfall over the next 12 hours,” said Mr Cronje.

“It should be light showers by tomorrow.”

Sunday is expected to return to normal with just 10 per cent chance of any rainfall.

Meanwhile people on the Gold Coast aren’t afraid to face the wet weather, with six-year-old Jasper Lin snapped braving the rain in Labrador.
