Gold Coast weather: BOM says hot, sticky days are here to stay

Gold Coasters could expect the same sweaty and scorching conditions as places like Townsville over the coming days. WEATHER UPDATE

Tsunami warnings cancelled for Australia's east coast

THE Gold Coast is in for a week of hot and stuffy weather as humidity levels common in tropical North Queensland spread throughout Australia’s east coast.

Bureau of Meteorology’s Helen Kirkup said Gold Coasters could expect the same sweaty and scorching conditions as places like Townsville over the coming days.

“It’s probably because we’ve got one ex-tropical cyclone off to the east and we’re probably going to see the impact of the cyclone over the west moving more moisture through the atmosphere this week,” the meteorologist said.

Coolangatta is forecast to reach relative humidity of 75 per cent on Monday.

The Gold Coast’s humidity levels have not dipped below 60 per cent over the past few days, Ms Kirkup said.

“The whole east coast is pretty hot and humid at the moment and probably will be for most of the week.”

It comes after a tsunami alert for the Gold Coast was cancelled following a violent underwater volcano ripped through Tonga.
