THE D’Arcy Arms, the Surfers Paradise watering hole that offers Irish fayre and beer and somewhere to sleep it off, is being targeted by hotel groups.
Owner and construction industry identity Mick Power says the hoteliers are interested in potentially building on the D’Arcy site, perhaps a tower with a new tavern at the base.
Mick bought the property in 2004 and in 2016 bought an adjoining lot, creating a total holding of 3154sq m in an unlimited height zone.
EX-VILLAGE BIG CHEESE’S BONOGIN BUY
GRAHAM Burke, who spent three decades at the helm of Movie World and Sea World owner Village Roadshow, has taken a $2.675 shine to the Gold Coast Hinterland.
The movie industry veteran, who started in the business as a ticket collector at 14, has bought a near 30-year-old home on a 3ha property in Bonogin’s Aylesham Drive.
The Melbourne-based retiree has an apartment in a seven-year-old South Yarra building in which prices are in the millions.
LUCRATIVE LAKES SITE ON BLOCK
THE Sunland Group, which is in wind-down mode, appears to have opted against further tower development at its The Lakes community at Mermaid Waters.
The listed group has put two lakefront sites on the market, one approved for two 12-level buildings and the other in The Lakes masterplan at 12 levels.
Sunland, regarded as ‘stealing’ the 42ha The Lakes site when it bought it for $61 million in 2014, has completed two fast-selling towers and is building another two.
