THE OWNER of a famed Gold Coast steakhouse has been left choking back tears every night at the sheer demand by customers – even as the business prepares to move.
Cav’s Steakhouse in Labrador will close its doors this week, shifting to a new Runaway Bay location as its existing home undergoes a major redevelopment.
It has been at the same spot since 1984.
Regulars have been turning out to farewell the business, with a packed house Saturday night – something owner Richard Cavill said had become commonplace.
“We’ve been booked out for two weeks, I’ve knocked back 1000 people (from bookings) in the last two weeks,” he said.
“(The demand) has been unbelievable, unexpected and very humbling. I walk around with tears in my eyes.
“The customers are the most important thing in my life.”
Mr Cavill said once remodelling was completed Cav’s Steakhouse will become Cav’s Emporium, “the first of its kind in Australia”.
“It will be a butchery restaurant, so you come in and pick your meats and you can either take it home or we can cook it for you,” he said.
“Downstairs there will be a doctor (and) a cafe, other commercial spots which have already been leased out.
“It will be quite a little commercial hub in Labrador.”
Cav’s Steakhouse will move to 6 Bayview Street in Runaway Bay, opening on October 28. Its old location will reopen in sometime in 2021.
