A GIANT mansion in Southport’s most elite residential strip and described as the grandest of the grand has been put on the market at $25 million.
Alston, which is in The Southport School precinct, is a 2225 sqm home owned by transport industry figure Peter Smith.

Amir Mian, principal of Amir Prestige, yesterday said the three-level mansion was one of sophisticated grandeur.
“It’s European in style and when it was completed a decade ago, it set a benchmark for conservative luxury on the Gold Coast.
“Nothing has changed in that regard – to my mind Alston remains unmatched.
“It remains the grandest of the grand among the city’s finest homes.”
Mr Mian, who is marketing the property in tandem with colleague Carlie Mills, said Alston, with its six fireplaces, was a house for all seasons.
The property was featured on social media on Friday and Ms Mills said the level of interest was mind-boggling.
“The phone hasn’t stopped ringing, which shows there’s an enormous buyer appetite for top-echelon properties.”
Alston’s neighbours are Gold Coast Suns chairman Tony Cochrane and Riviera Maritimo marine founder Bill Barry-Cotter.
The mansion, built by later-failed developer Graham Spottiswood and held in wife Suzanne’s name, and was marketed at $20 million-plus in 2011.
Mr Smith paid $9.8 million for it in 2013 at an auction called by receivers on behalf of the Commonwealth Bank.
Mr Mian said Mr Smith was selling because the property had become too big for him.
The mansion is on a 3442 sqm site bought for $2.35 million from Split Cycle engine advocate the late Rick Mayne in 1998.
The home, which has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, was completed in 2010 and reportedly cost $14 million to build.
The record for a riverfront home was set last year when childcare industry player Bruce Coulson and wife Carolyne sold their near 3000 sqm three-level home on the Isle of Capri to a Chinese buyer from Sydney for $27 million.
A buyer of Alston will have a house that includes:
– An entry foyer with elaborate parquetry flooring, large chandelier, and adjoining cloakroom.
– Five bedrooms, all with en suites, plus a staff flat with a further bedroom.
– A southern wing that houses the master bedroom and includes a giant dressing room and a master bathroom with his and hers vanities.
– A first-floor family wing with three bedrooms, living area, and kitchen and laundry facilities.
– A two-level library with spiral staircase.
– A billiard room.
– A bar of five-star hotel quality and with a six-metre long marble bar top.
– An entertaining room overlooking the Nerang River and with its own kitchen.
– A formal living room with a music conservatory at one end.
– A principal kitchen with a circular bench, cool room, and walk-in pantry.
– A grand formal dining room adjacent to the kitchen,
– An indoor recreation area that comprises a 15-metre heated
pool, spa, gymnasium, and combined steam room-sauna.
– A study/office that can be accessed externally.
– A basement that houses a split-level cinema with an
adjoining bar, a massage room, storage rooms, and parking
for up to eight cars.
– A temperature-controlled wine room.
