The Jack Beasley Foundation, established by the parents of the 17-year-old boy who died after being stabbed in Surfers Paradise in 2019, was among hundreds of charities around the country that had their content deleted by the social media giant as part of their war against the federal government’s proposed media bargaining code.

The foundation was set up by Jack’s mum and dad, Brett and Belinda Beasley, to tackle increased knife violence in the city.

Hours after the contents of its Facebook page was purged, a 14-year-old boy allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the other teen several times in the upper body and arm.

The teen had been with a group of youths when he began arguing with a 16-year-old boy at the station.

Mr Beasley described the wiping of the foundation’s page and others like it as “absolutely ridiculous”.

“If we can’t have our say on social media then things like this (knife crime) will just keep happening,” he said.

“If you look at the young fella at Coomera who has been charged. He’s 14 years old. That’s the target market for social media and for our organisation to reach through Facebook.

“These kids, they need to learn and without our Facebook page to raise the awareness and education, our hands are tied. It’s just crazy and needs to be fixed.”

Mr Beasley said the foundation also generated promotion for its charity and fundraising events through the site.

“To have it stopped overnight, it was just another kick in the guts for Jack Beasley Foundation.”
