A Robina man who allegedly stole a Toyota HiLux during a test drive will remain behind bars after his matter was mentioned in court.

Police have charged a man in relation to the alleged theft of a Toyota HiLux from a Highland Park dealership.

A Robina man who allegedly stole a Toyota HiLux during a test drive will remain behind bars after his matter was briefly mentioned in court.

Shannon Daile Adam Ryder, 32, did not apply for bail and did not appear when his case was mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The matter was adjourned to September 14 at the request of a duty lawyer.

The incident allegedly occurred during the test drive of a black Toyota HiLux.

Police will allege around 2pm Monday, Ryder took part in a test drive with a salesperson from a dealership at Hinkler Dr, Highland Park.

Investigating officers allege midway through the test drive, the 65-year-old salesman was pushed out of the vehicle after pulling over to show off some of its features.

It is alleged the 32-year-old then drove off with the car. The salesman was not physically injured in the incident.

Around 2.30am Tuesday police found the HiLux abandoned and undamaged in an underground car park in Tugun.

Following investigations, police arrested Ryder hours later at a location along Waterways Drive, Coomera.

Ryder was charged with one count each of robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, uttering and possess utensils as well as two counts of possessing dangerous drugs.
