A two-week-old restaurant in a late-night precinct along the Gold Coast Highway says things are already proving challenging given the lack of parking spaces available.

Nobby Beach’s new restaurant and Pisco bar, Tayta Nikkei opened two weeks ago, making it the fourth restaurant with its unique style of cuisine in Australia.

Owners Kaitlin Wood and Adriano Antonini said the Peruvian and Japanese blended restaurant was three years in the making.

“We are thrilled to be finally open and have had amazing feedback about the flavours and concept so far,” Ms Wood said.

“We have gained some regulars in just this short period which is promising”.

Ms Wood said while business has been busy since opening, the Nobby’s Beach precinct posed some challenges for them.

On August 9, it was announced at least 500 car parks would be lost to the light rail during stage three of the project which will take the route from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads.

Additionally, a three-hour parking limit would be enforced from 9am to 5pm on weekdays along the entire Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 corridor.

“We are concerned about the railway and especially the parking issue as limited parking in Nobbys has already proven to be a challenge for us,” she said.

“But we feel strongly that if we can get people through the door over the next few months to try this amazing cuisine, it’ll be worth the Uber to and from, when the construction starts.”

Ms Wood said they were the only venue on the Gold Coast to offer the unique cuisine.

She said the tuna tiradito and ceviches were the most popular raw dishes and the slow-cooked octopus or the slow-cooked pork ribs were the most popular hot items.

“We are glad to see people enjoying the Nikkei side of the menu and not just coming in and ordering things they are comfortable with.”

Ms Wood said the restaurant was inspired by their overseas travels.

“Adriano has been in hospitality for 15 years and has worked all around the world in some incredible restaurants and this has been his dream since he worked at Nikkei restaurant in London.”

Ms Wood said while there was some concerns about the future light rail construction, they were optimistic the restaurant would flourish on the Gold Coast.

“This cuisine has really taken off in the US, London, Dubai, Middle East, Canada and Asia.

However, there was only three other Nikkei restaurants in Australia – one in Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra.
