A Gold Coast doctor who was victim to online abuse early in the year has died, prompting patients to pay tribute to a “wonderful” and “lovely attentive” GP.

Pacific Pines MedCentres director Deon Raju confirmed their Dr Wilson Chin has passed away - telling the Bulletin it was medically related and “not mental health related”.

“He was gentle, kind and always had a smile on his face,” he said.

“He made time for people and, over the years, his patients and colleagues have grown to know and love him.

“He had a passion for medicine, and genuinely wanted to help his patients.”

Dr Chin graduated in the UK and moved to the Gold Coast to become a General Practitioner in 2018.

Mr Raju said Dr Chin regularly spoke about how much he loved the weather and lifestyle on the Gold Coast and walking his dog Splash.

“He was great fun to hang out with, with his quick wit and smooth dance moves,” Mr Raju said.

“We were honoured to have known him.”

Mr Raju said they were still awaiting the details on his cause of death but said it was medically related: “Without a shadow of doubt, it was not mental health related.”

The family asked to be given respect and time to grieve before disclosing any further details, he said.

A post on the Pacific Pines community page said it was “devastating to hear of the loss of one of our nicest community members Dr Wilson Chin”.

A patient wrote: “He was such a wonderful doctor.”

Another added: “So very sad, such a lovely attentive Dr … RIP Dr Wilson.”

In January the Dr Chin broke down about receiving death threats from members of the public after two girls fainted after receiving the Pfizer vaccine.

On January 22 he posted an emotional statement to his Facebook and said members of the public had lied by saying the two girls had died.

“I have been in touch with the parents every day since the children fainted, even before the news channels approached me,” he said.

“I can confirm they are doing very well and would like to ask everyone to respect their privacy please. “

He said the mass posts and comments had triggered extreme online bullying.

“If this was my family there would be no reason big enough to expose my loved ones to any of what we had to endure the last few days,” Dr Chin said.

“The threats, the abuse and the utter fear from parents was unbelievable.

“I have never seen anything like this before and it seemed never ending.”

Dr Chin said at the time he was thankful for his medical practise for supporting him throughout those grim times.

“Thank you immensely so-so much for all the heart felt messages and gestures shown to me and my colleagues from everyone in the community,” he said at the time.

“I also want to thank the police officers for what they have done to keep my beloved colleagues safe.

“Everyone deserves to be treated nicely but the last few days I had been allowed to experience the utmost unforgettable positive attitude that humans can show one another,” he finished the post with.

His Facebook shows photos of a smiling Dr Chin in recent years enjoying walks with a pet dog and helicopter flight. It also includes photos of flowers and well wishes in his office at the time of the vaccine drama.
