Gold Coast OnlyFans star Dale Egan bares all on growing up and how he makes close to $1m a year in the adult film industry

What is life really like for a male OnlyFans performer? The Gold Coast’s very own Dale Egan says there’s more to him than his racy internet image. Read our exclusive interview.

Renee Gracie on what life on OnlyFans is really like

Ex-con. Devout Christian. Top earning OnlyFans performer. This is Dale Egan.

The Gold Coast local went from “scrawny teenager” where the opposite sex would “avoid him like the plague” to an imposing bodybuilder, who landed a stint behind bars for a drug-fuelled home invasion.

Now Egan has found a new calling. He cashes in close to a million dollars a year creating adult content through subscription platform OnlyFans.

But behind the veneer of confidence and on-screen masculine bravado is a sensitive, intelligent bloke, who is in touch with his feelings.

He’s a practising Christian who listens to his favourite religious hits on the way to the gym and loves his mum.

While he doesn’t go to church, Egan said he “definitely believes in God” and “prays everyday”. He says he knows what he does for a living is a sin.

Egan says he felt like a “loser” for most of his life and grew up as a skinny kid in Tweed and on the Gold Coast, where he copped his “fair share of bullying”.

The 31-year-old revealed to the Bulletin he struggled with chronic depression for most of his life, was “completely broke most of the time” and left school at 14.

It was while working as a bouncer at Coolangatta Hotel in 2012, a chance encounter catapulted him into the adult film industry.

He met an adult film actor, and after “having a bit of a flirt”, the two kept contact.

“At the time I had no money and it seemed like something I’d be interested in doing, so I reached out to her,” Egan said.

“I flew down to Melbourne and I shot two separate scenes.

“It wasn’t the best pay packet but it definitely gave me a sense that it would be a career worth following.”

He said he was “s***ting himself” over his first scene and that he “struggled” due to nerves.

“No matter how prepared you think you are once the cameras start rolling it’s all on you,” he said.

Fast forward a few years and Egan was in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. He struggled to make ends meet and his mental health spiralled out of control.

A combination of reaching “a massive low point” and an appetite for drugs culminated in a violent home invasion. He was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison for the crime.

After getting out of prison, Egan said he was all too aware of the “cyclic nature of crime” and was going to make sure he never went back.

“While I was in jail I made the choice to never go back behind bars. I spent a lot of time in there practising self development, manifestation and reflection.”

He worked a few odd jobs, but ultimately decided a career in the adult entertainment industry was the only way he could truly succeed.

“I was absolutely determined to get into it, and really succeed at it,” he said.

Egan said the journey didn’t come without hard work, and that running an OnlyFans account and being a performer was a “full-time career”.

Now he’s in the top 0.2 per cent of earners on the platform, and one of Australia’s most prominent adult film stars.

He said the process of shooting a scene was more complex than one would think, with detailed discussions around consent, boundaries and set up being a major factor before the cameras even start rolling.

Due to his work, normal relationships haven’t come easy to Egan.

While he’s captured with beauties on screen, in real life many women “turn him down” due to his profession.

“There’s been some women I’ve fancied quite a lot and when they found out what I do for a job they’ve gone off me,” he said.

“I have a lot of friends in the industry that have hugely successful relationships but sadly, it’s something that I haven’t done too well at.

So what does a normal day in the life look like for the star?

Egan said he wakes up early and gets all of his administration work done, which to anyone serious about OnlyFans, takes up a large portion of the workday.

This includes sorting emails, planning shoots, responding to fans on social media and organising his page.

From there he’ll hit the gym, giving him a “sense of purpose and routine” and also work to keep depression at bay.

Egan said the industry has given him a close circle of friends that he “never had before”.

“We are all supportive of each other and it’s a great thing to be a part of,” he said.

When questioned about the stellar success of his career, Egan gave a humble response.

“I’m just grateful that I’m not still travelling down such a dark road.”
