THE old adage that nothing good ever happens after midnight was pushed to one side at Nineteen at The Star on Friday evening.
With the removal of dining restrictions in Queensland, Jackie and Billy Cross hosted an exclusive table for 10 at their restaurant with dinner commencing at precisely 12.01am.
“We wanted to do something a little different and have Nineteen be the first in Queensland to open the doors for patrons,” Mrs Cross said.
“It was so great to get dressed up after so long and go out for dinner with good friends.”
“Mayor Tom Tate was there with Ruth as was the Chair of Tourism Australia Bob East with his wife Susan.
“Jessica Mellor, COO of The Star Gold Coast, and her partner Luke, Brett and Rebecca
Frizelle joined Billy and I to round out the table.
“We enjoyed the five course tasting menu which includes top grade steak, a fish dish and our famous crab cakes.

“Plus the added joy of having a cocktail delivered to the table.
“It is a little different now because we have health protocols in place but everyone understands the new rules and is happy to comply and be a little bit more patient under the
circumstances.
“From now we have a time strategy in place so we can provide two sittings at lunch and three at night to enable our loyal customers the chance to get out, have some great food and a bit of fun.”
Mrs Cross stayed overnight at The Darling after the dinner wrapped up at 2am and she was
amazed at the large number of locals she saw enjoying a staycation in our premier hotel.
“There was such a cool vibe from everybody we saw,” Mrs Cross said.
“It was amazing to see so many familiar faces. I honestly think the Gold Coast is well placed to have an extraordinary comeback as more and more restrictions are removed.”
