Gold Coast Music Award nominations now open: Amy Shark tipped for win

Nominations for this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards are officially open. Will Amy Shark take out the top gong for the fourth year?

NOMINATIONS for this year’s Gold Coast Music Awards are officially open.

The event is in it’s sixth year with the top gong taken out by golden girl Amy Shark for the past three years.

Shark was inducted into the Gold Coast Music Hall of Fame - but what it is has yet to be announced by Gold Coast City Council.

Other winners have been country music singer Casey Barnes and rock band Wolfmother’s keyboardist Ian Peres.

San Mei took out last year’s Breakout Artist and Song of the Year and said its “incredibly encouraging to have the support and recognition by your hometown”.

“The team sees how hard we touring/recording artists work and puts on an amazing event that makes all the participants feel valued.

“This is a wonderful and important event for the Gold Coast’s growing music industry.”

Gold Coast Music Awards judging panel chair Donna Weston said: “So much musical gold has come out of the region this year and many milestones reached”.

“We can’t wait to see who throws their hat in the ring with nominations this year - there are always a few exciting surprises.

GOLD COAST MUSIC AWARDS: AMY SHARK WINS ARTISTS OF THE YEAR FOR THIRD YEAR IN A ROW

Mayor Tom Tate said 2020 would be a golden year for music on the Gold Coast with the formation of the City’s Music Advisory Group.

“As part of our continued roll out of the Music Action Plan, we have formed a special Music Advisory Group tasked with growing the Gold Coast music sector,” he said.

“This group will be responsible for recognising home grown talent and providing opportunities for local artists and businesses to thrive.

“The Gold Coast Music Awards shares this goal. I look forward to seeing which talent are nominated for this year’s awards.”

Nominations for the sixth annual Gold Coast Music Awards are now open and closes February 28.

You can vote at gcmusicawards.com.au. Finalists will be announced April 2.

The awards night will be held on April 30 on the beachfront of Surfers Paradise.
