Gold Coast man charged with brutal murder of his elderly housemate ‘quite depressed’

The man accused of murdering Gold Coast mum Susan Walker in her Molendinar home on Sunday night is feeling “quite depressed”, according to his lawyer.

Jason Thomas King faced Southport Magistrate Court briefly on Tuesday morning facing one charge of murder.

It is alleged he killed his elderly flatmate in their home on Sunday night.

MURDER ACCUSED NAMED AS TRIBUTES FLOW FOR DEAD HOUSEMATE

Ms Walker, 74, was allegedly found with severe head injuries in a pool of blood.

King, 50, was in court via videolink from the Southport Watchhouse with messy, dark hair and stubble.

Defence lawyer Sunil Dutt, of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Legal Service, asked for the matter to be adjourned for the committal process to start.

Magistrate Gary Finger adjourned the matter to May 17.

He ordered the police brief be prepared by May 5.

When asked outside court how King was feeling Mr Dutt said he was “quite depressed”.

Mr Dutt said he would be checking in with his client this afternoon.
