There has been a ‘massive failure’ in Victoria’s Police command system

A GOLD Coast man has been arrested after allegedly driving dangerously and fleeing police in the city’s north on Friday night.

Police say they spotted a car driving at high speed with false number plates on Gooding Drive at Merrimac at 9pm.

They attempted to intercept the vehicle but it failed to stop, forcing Polair1 to track the sedan from the skies to Lexington Drive in Worongary.

The male driver and sole occupant fled on foot.

A police dog tracked the man and found him hiding under a car in the carport of a nearby home.

A 23-year-old Ashmore man was taken into custody and treated for a minor dog bite.

He was taken to Southport Watchhouse, where he allegedly was breath-tested at 0.09 per cent.

He was charged with driving over the general alcohol limit but not over the middle alcohol limit.

He has since been further charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, disqualified and unlicensed driving, unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle, failing to stop at red light, fail to comply with requirement to stop, obstruct police, possess drug utensils and possessing dangerous drugs (cannabis).

He is expected to appear in Southport Magistrates Court next month.
