Following the month of May and the highly anticipated Tim Tszyu boxing match in June, the Gold Coast will host its first Pacific Airshow direct from the USA.

Known as the biggest airshow in America, the Coast will host the event for the first time with organisers anticipating it to inject a further $25 million into the Gold Coast economy.

Major Events Gold Coast CEO Jan McCormick said the two events were just the start of a plethora of major instalments rolling out across the city – with boxing champion Tim Tszyu announcing his fight on June 18 at the Convention Centre.

After the highly anticipated Tim Tszyu boxing match in June, the Gold Coast will host its first Pacific Airshow direct from the USA.

Known as the biggest airshow in America, the Coast will host the event for the first time with organisers anticipating it to inject a further $25 million into the Gold Coast economy.

“Having Blues on Broadbeach, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and Tim Tszyu world title fight next month really demonstrates the value of events tourism to our city,” Ms McCormick said.

“Not only will people flock from across Australia and internationally to the city, they will bring with them a significant economic impact in the tens of millions – and we have only just started.

“The fact that Blues on Broadbeach and Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show take place on consecutive weekends is wonderful for our city. There will be a crossover in visitation with many people coming for both events.

“As our city grows so too do these events and it gives people options – which is really important.”

Attendance for this year’s Blues on Broadbeach are expected to reach pre-Covid numbers of 50,000 a day with Ms McCormick citing accommodation bookings for the weekend period as strong.

“We hope to get those numbers this year – the entertainment line up is phenomenal.”

Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show general manager Johan Hasser said the annual boat show was the biggest of its kind.

“There’s no other boat show in the world that can compete with us,” he said.

“Someone said to me it’s the Melbourne Cup of boat shows – it’s a very significant event for this city.

“This year will see the 34th annual event at Sanctuary Cove and it will be the biggest and best we’ve ever had.

“From jetskis to superyachts – we’re talking millions across all those segments.”

Mr Hasser said the big ticket items were part of the major attraction with superyachts “trending”.

“This is super exciting for the Coast and Queensland because a lot of the crafts are built in right here,” he said.

“There will be world premieres over the show from Riviera and Maritimo – that itself is testament to us as a city.”

Mr Hasser said the event was expected to attract 15,000 to 20,000 people from interstate and overseas with an expected turn out of over 50,000 people over the course of the four days.
