POPULAR tracks at Burleigh Heads National Park have reopened after last week’s fire but visitors have been shocked by the devastation.

Blackened bushland stretches from the top of the hill to the Oceanview Track that skirts the sand.

Despite the hillside’s history of instability, the Bulletin observed multiple groups of teens ignoring warnings signs to perch on a clifftop rock notorious for Instagram photo ops.

There were fresh driftwood firepits on the southern side of the headland.

Fire crews fighting Burleigh Hill blaze

September 12: Fire crews are currently battling a blaze on Burleigh Hill on the Gold Coast.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said one crew is currently on the scene with another on the way.

The spokesperson said the fire is burning in the park land area of the hill.
