A MULTI-MILLION dollar manufacturing hub is the latest project unveiled by the State Government in the lead up to the October 31 election.

The Palaszczuk Government has pledged $40 million for investing in manufacturing skills training and manufacturing businesses across the state.

Part of the “Making It in Queensland” strategy includes a new manufacturing hub for the Gold Coast, with the location yet to be announced.

State Development Minister Kate Jones joined Gaven Labor MP Meaghan Scanlon in Nerang for the announcement.

Ms Jones said the new hub would boost the local industry and jobs.

“The focus of the Gold Coast hub will be on transport equipment and vehicles, food processing and metal products,” she said.

“(This makes sure) we have the skilled workers we need for secure jobs in existing and emerging industries.”

Ms Scanlon also announced a $1.2 million Made in Queensland grant for Ormeau motorsport manufacturer PWR Performance Products.

The money will buy them a “world-leading aluminium printer”.

“That will help them to create new local jobs and upskill their existing workforce,” Ms Scanlon said.

“It’s a great example of what we will continue to do on the Gold Coast to assist manufacturers under our latest strategy.”

A second manufacturing hub has been promised for Mackay.

Of a total $40 million, $15.5 million will boost the grants program, focusing on bringing critical medical protective gear back to Queensland.

A further $16.5 million will be used to drive development of advanced manufacturing skills through creating independent not-for-profit Manufacturing Skills Queensland.
