Police and council officers have visited a Gold Coast kennel after the owner of the property was slapped with a $14,000 fine. Find out why

A Gold Coast kennel has been slapped with a $14,000 fine by council over noise issues following numerous complaints from nearby residents.

The Elite K9 Resort in Nerang was recently issued the fine following the launch of a Gold Coast City Council probe into the Gilston Rd business.

A council spokeswoman said officers attended the site on Thursday morning as part of its ongoing investigation into the use of the premises.

“Officers have recently issued notices and a penalty infringement notice of approximately $14,000 to the owner of the property relating to noise from the site,” she said.

The business was contacted for comment, but did not respond by deadline.

The mobile address listed for the business was called several times, but there was no answer.

Police and council cars were pictured outside the facility on Thursday, with council staff seen walking in and out.

A police spokeswoman said QPS officers were there to assist council, which is common for animal management jobs.

Earlier this month, it was revealed council had launched an investigation into Elite K9 Resort Nerang.

“The city has received complaints from local residents relating to noise from an animal keeping facility at Gilston Road, Nerang. Officers are investigating the matters,” a council spokeswoman said at the time.

“If breaches of approvals or local laws are found, the city will take appropriate action to have the breaches rectified.”

The spokeswoman did not respond to a question asking how many complaints were received.

It comes after residents took to social media in recent weeks to raise concerns about barking dogs in the facility.

In response to the comments, Division 5 Councillor Peter Young wrote on Facebook: “I am trying very hard to get a strong outcome from council on the use of the site due to the impacts on the local community, especially from constantly barking dogs”.

An RSPCA spokeswoman said noise complaints about the facility were a matter for the council.

“We have received previous complaints in relation to barking at the facility, but barking complaints are a Gold Coast City Council matter under their Animal Management Act,” she said.
