A LARGE waterfront house will be demolished and replaced with a sleek modern mega-mansion under new plans on file with the council.
The 1113 sqm site in Winch Court, Mermaid Waters, will be cleared to make way for the house created for Rob and Tui McKinnon.
The couple bought the 30-year-old, five-bedroom house in December 2018 for $2.1 million and settled on the property in March 2019.
Their planned new triangular “executive residence” house will have four levels, with its features including a multi-vehicle basement garage, gym, sauna and lift.

The back yard will feature a pool, a large lawn that slopes towards the canal, and a fire pit, plus an outdoor entertaining area.
The house will have five bedrooms and eight bathrooms or water closets, plus a rooftop entertaining area overlooking the city’s coastline.
“The dwelling is of a modern design with clean lines, a mixture of materials and finishes with interesting shapes and the use of voids and landscaping to soften the built form,” a planning report on the project says.

“The rear elevation is predominantly glass, allowing the wide water views to be experienced from the majority of the building.”
It is the third project of its kind to be proposed in recent weeks.
In August, plans for a mansion were unveiled for Carrara, where an existing mansion is being demolished to make way for a new 11m high building put forward by Anthony and Katarina Puljich.
Luxury features include a cinema, sauna, tennis court and pool overlooking the river.
Also in August, Billy Thomas lodged plans to build a luxury house in the exclusive Sovereign Island’s Brittanic Crescent
That three-storey mansion will include a partially underground basement level containing a five-car garage and a car turntable similar to that of the Batcave in the Batman comic books.
