DOLPHINS coach Chris Swan hopes the club’s Queensland Premier Cricket First Grade T20 grand final win instils a belief in the players that will make the premiership a launching pad to more success.
A middle order fightback when the game was on the cusp of slipping away propelled Gold Coast to a three wicket win in the final over against Toombul at Allan Border Field on Sunday.

Set a target of 161 to win following a big finish to Toombul’s batting stint, the Dolphins were put on the back foot when they arrived at the crease.
Gold Coast lost four wickets in the power play and were 5/101 when Liam Hope-Shackley took centre stump but Toombul’s gamble of rolling Chris Knight (4/23) through all his four overs early left them short at the end.
He produced a stunning knock of 37 runs from 24 balls to add to Scott Palomba’s 41 runs and Jack Hargreaves knock of 32 to resurrect an innings sealed with a four with four balls to spare.
“It’s very exciting. It’s a great Christmas present that is for sure. It’s a win for the club, they haven’t had a premiership in a couple of years so it’s a great result,” Swan said.
“Losing four in the power play wasn’t part of the plan but Polomba, Hargreaves and Shackley were crucial to our chances.

“Those blokes played beautifully and got us over the line.
“The secret to our success is the fact there are no superstars here, we all play for each other.”
Gold Coast’s team is stacked with youth who were playing without Brisbane Heat Big Bash League players Max Bryant, Matt Kuhnemann and Xavier Bartlett and Swan hopes the title will provide enormous belief for the team going forward.
“Belief is such a big thing,” Swan said.
“These blokes have to realise they are good enough. Belief is crucial.”
