A leading Gold Coast and Brisbane restaurateur is celebrating Easter with his engagement to partner Madeline Cara after a gushing proposal.
Simon Gloftis, who started his hospitality empire on the Gold Coast with Three Beans cafe, The Fish House and Hellenkia restaurants, proposed on Thursday in Sydney.
Mr Gloftis, whose operations are now Brisbane based with the opulent SK Steak & Oyster and relocated Hellenika at the Calile Hotel in Brisbane, told the Bulletin he met Madeline in Brisbane in 2019 at one of his venues.
“We met at work actually, the first time I met Madeline I was like ‘Yeah this is going to be a problem’,” Mr Gloftis said.
“I proposed in Sydney at the first hotel we ever stayed at together, I organised the same beautiful room at the InterContinental Hotel in Double Bay and proposed on the balcony.
“I’ve been nervous for a long time about asking the question so I’m very happy it’s done,” he said.
“We’re flying to the Gold Coast today, we’re just going to relax and enjoy the long weekend.”
The announcement on his Instagram - with “OMG we’re getting married” alongside a photo of them kissing - has sparked waves of congratulations on Mr Gloftis’ social media.
