Gold Coast man allegedly found with heroin and guns: Robina man arrested for allegedly attempting to import drugs

A Gold Coast man found with about $350,000 worth of heroin claimed he had been given just $1000 to transport the drug, it has been alleged in court.

A GOLD Coast man found with about $350,000 worth of heroin claimed he had been given just $1000 to transport the drug, it has been alleged in court.

He was also allegedly found with more than $41,000 in cash in his home.

Luca Burness faced Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday for multiple charges including possessing dangerous drugs and importation of drugs.

It is alleged the 20-year-old was at a Maudsland home and signed for two packages, each containing 1kg of the drug heroin.

Burness was allegedly caught as a part of an ongoing police operation.

It is alleged police also searched Burness’ Robina home on Tuesday and found a shotgun, a handgun, more than $41,000 in cash, 21 grams of cocaine and 54 grams of MDMA.

Burness allegedly told police he was aware there was drugs in the packages, but was not aware what type.

He allegedly said he had been paid $1000 to accept the packages.

It is alleged Burness also told police he was holding the drugs found in his Robina home for someone else.

Defence lawyer Chris Hannay, of Hannay Lawyers, said Burness would be able to live with his mother in Carrara.

He said Burness also agreed to a curfew and not to apply for a passport.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert granted him bail with a number of conditions including that he report to police regularly, abide to a curfew between 10pm and 7am and live with his mother in Carrara.

The matter was adjourned to May 17.
