The Gold Coast Airport has won multiple awards for the fifth year in a row only weeks after passengers were left stranded after an IT outage.
Gold Coast Airport recently was named as the Best Regional Airport and the Cleanest Airport in Australia and Pacific for 2023 at the Skytrax World Awards in Amsterdam.
Queensland Airports Limited Chief Executive Officer Amelia Evans said the awards were a credit to the 2,2000 team members who work at the Coolangatta airport.
“We are all so proud of the team who continue to focus on the customer every single day,” she said.
“The recognition that comes with awards at this level not only puts Gold Coast Airport in the spotlight, but it places the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales communities on the world stage.
“This has come at a particularly exciting time for the Gold Coast Airport, with our new international terminal now open and global connections continuing to be an ambition for us in the future,” Ms Evans said.
The blackout caused hour-long delays for passengers as IT systems were down and check-in systems were unusable.
The Gold Coast Airport are still searching for the reason behind why the generator did not work immediately.
Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted said the awards were a representation on how the airport and its staff handled situations like the outage.
“The past few years have been extremely challenging for airports worldwide, and as we move on from the Covid-19 pandemic it is pleasing to see passenger numbers returning to normal, and for Gold Coast Airport to be recognised as a leading airport by their customers.”
