Two men have been taken to hospital in serious condition after a crash at a busy Gold Coast intersection on one of the city’s key arterial roads.
Emergency services were called to the crash at the intersection of Ferry and Benowa roads in Southport around 12.45pm on Monday.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics assessed two men in serious condition.
The spokeswoman said a man in his forties suffered a head injury, while a man in his fifties had serious chest injuries.
Both were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.
A Gold Coast police spokesman said it was originally reported one man was not breathing.
The spokesman said the Forensic Crash Unit would investigate the cause of the incident.
The intersection was closed to northbound and traffic lights were down, causing heavy delays for motorists.
Car dealership staffer Damien Kerr said he heard the crash from his office more than 500 metres up the road.
“It was an almighty sound. Metal and like shattered glass, nothing I’ve heard before. I could see the person in the white car was trapped.
“It’s hard looking at that (crash scene). What a mess, I pray everyone is ok.”
