The city’s newest and, ahem, coolest new attraction has just opened in the centre of Surfers Paradise.

IceBar Surfers is the second of its kind in the country – offering a thrilling and welcome escape from soaring Gold Coast temperatures.

At a constant negative 10 degrees the concept is described as a “winter wonderland” where everything is made from a whopping 44 tonnes of ice.

General manager of IceBar Surfers Charlotte Stephens said it took five guys just under two weeks to complete the icy build.

“Everything is made of ice,” Ms Stephens said.

“The walls, the bar, the chairs, the games – we have an ice hockey table made of ice.

“We had a wood carver by trade from Victoria come up, ice carvers from Malaysia and the United States.”

Ms Stephens said the original IceBar has operated in Melbourne for 17 years, making the Gold Coast opening “very smooth”.

“We came up here for a tourism conference last May and thought it would make for a perfect location,” Ms Stephens said.

Ms Stephens revealed after opening to the public on Monday the team were “very confident” they made the right choice.

“There’s lots of foot traffic and we’re right in the centre of all the tourist hotspots like Ripley’s and the Slingshot – we’re centred in the middle of it all,” she said.

More than just a bar, Ms Stephens said the IceBar was about having a “memorable experience” for locals and tourists alike.

Sessions include warm clothing and a drink and go for 45 minutes each.

They start from $22 for kids aged between 4-17 and $45 for adults.

Kids under four are free but parents and carers are advised to bring appropriate clothing for the little ones.
