A nail technician crowned the city’s best says she has been “humbled” and “overwhelmed” by the support for her.
After hundreds of votes at goldcoastbulletin.com.au Glamour Chic Beauty owner Briana Power was named the Glitter Strip’s best nail technician.
Nail Empire and Beauty was the runner-up and Nail Vogue placed third.
Ms Power said after starting her business 10 years ago as a “little side gig” she was overwhelmed to have won.
“Doing what brings you joy is always the goal in life and the fact that I get to do what I love an am passionate about as a job everyday,” she said.
Ms Power’s ‘superpower’ was her 3D nail art which took her years to master and now was able to finish a set within two hours.
“Being aligned in a job that allows me to have a creative outlet and helping other women feel beautiful is just so fulfilling,” she said.
Ms Power said she hoped to be able to teach technicians in the future.
“I hope by me winning it will inspire others to just give it a go,” she said.
“I’ve come from very humble beginnings and have had to navigate life on my own from a very young age but I’ve never let my past dictate my future.”
GLAMOUR CHIC NAMED AS FINALIST
A Gold Coast nail bar owner says she is humbled after receiving high praise from hundreds of residents nominating her as one of the best in the region.
Glamour Chic owner Brianna Power was recently named a finalist for the best nail technician on the Gold Coast.
Ms Power received hundreds of nominations from her clients including one who said she was “so happy she finally found the one”.
Another said: “Bree is such an amazing nail artist and such a perfectionist in her work. Have trusted Bree with my nails for over seven years now. She is phenomenal.”
Ms Power said she started her business 10 years ago as a side gig but soon found her time was filled quickly and she was working full-time within a year of opening.
She said it took her at least a year to perfect her craft in terms of the build and ensuring longevity of the nail sets.
“The artwork however, is a completely different story,” Ms Power said.
“I’ve always been very artistic but perfecting the creation of tiny little artworks on a curved surface such as a nail has certainly taken some time.”
Ms Power said she was known for her hand-sculptured 3D flowers which she created using acrylic, as well as her handpainted butterflies.
“One thing I absolutely love about hand-painting the butterflies is that when my clients show them off,” she said.
Ms Power said social media helped her build her business on the Gold Coast.
“A huge misconception in the industry is that you have to have a huge flashy shop front with x amount of staff to be successful,” she said.
“Realistically everyone’s goals in business are different.”
Ms Power said she was excited to teach up-and-coming nail technicians the art of the craft.
“Over the years I have overcome a lot of adversity in my life, and to be in the industry doing what I love and being recognised for my hard work makes me so proud,” she said.
“I’ve been given absolutely no help in building this business and I’m so incredibly excited to see where my career will take me.”
EMPIRE NAILS NAMED AS FINALIST
A Gold Coast nail salon with a cult following has been named a finalist in the search for the region’s best nail business.
Empire Nails owner Susie Gaston said she had been working as a nail technician for 21 years, and loved every minute.
Ms Gaston said after starting her own business in 2012 within a hair salon, she had the goal growing her idea.
“I rebranded my business, hired my first employee and then I opened our own salon at Robina Shopping Village in 2018,” she said.
Ms Gaston said it was important to see a reputable nail technician who cared for the natural nail otherwise “improper application and removal cause damage”.
“Doing nails is so rewarding when your clients leave beaming with happiness at their new nails,” she said.
“Giving confidence to clients who have been self conscious of their nails is the best feeling.”
Ms Gaston said some of her clients travelled from Brisbane and New South Wales to see her.
“Nail art trends and products are forever changing, so you never stop learning.”
HOLY GRAIL NAILS NAMED AS FINALIST
A Gold Coast nail technician who says she practised her craft every day for two years has shared how she was able to make her hobby into a full-time job.
Coolangatta-based Holy Grail Nails owner Chelsea-Rose Mai was recently named as a finalist for the best nail technician on the Gold Coast.
Ms Mai said she was in “complete shock” on how many nominations she received after only being in business for two years.
She said she practised almost every day for the past two years to master soft gel extensions and hand painted nail art.
“Every single day I am still learning new things,” Ms Mai said.
“It took me quite a while to create the work I do to this day.
“When I first started the business I didn’t have too many clients so I would often spend my time practising on fake hands or press-on nail to perfect my skills.”
Ms Mai said the misconception of fake nails ruining the clients natural ones was false and extremely damaging to the industry.
“At Holy Grail Nails we strive to have clients grow their natural nails of their dreams,” she said.
“If your nails have been ruined by enhancements, it’s either an untrained technician or the products they are using are not up to standard.”
Ms Mai said she prides herself on giving each customer a personal experience and working out what best suits them.
