Drink driver allegedly five times over limit during Gold Coast Easter blitz

A woman allegedly scratched a police officer on the face after she was arrested for drink-driving.
The woman was one of 40 busted across the Easter weekend during a drink-driving blitz.
Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said 1600 random breath tests were conducted between Thursday 6am and Sunday 5pm.
On Tuesday, police released vision of a woman arrested for allegedly drink-driving, obstructing and assaulting police at Jacobs Well on Sunday night.
Police allege the 27-year-old Surfers Paradise woman was spotted by a passer-by sleeping in her car, half on the roadway.
“When he woke the woman, she allegedly drove away,” police said in a statement.
“A short time later, officers intercepted a woman driving on Norwell Rd and conducted a Roadside Breath Test, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.262.
“It will be further alleged that the woman repeatedly refused to exit her vehicle when instructed, then reached around a security screen to scratch the face of an officer whilst being transported to the watchhouse.”
In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man recorded .289 after police pulled him over for his manner of driving at Robina on Saturday. The limit is 0.05 per cent.
“ … Just the potential risk to not only himself, but other road users, it just boggles the mind,” he said.
Supt Wildman said police conducted 47 drug tests, of which 24 were positive.
The police boss was stumped as to why there were so many high drink-driving readings detected in recent weeks.
“I hope to see these high readings decrease in number,” he said. “We do have occasional readings that get into these high levels, but what we’ve seen, particularly in the last few weeks here on the Gold Coast, is quite concerning.”
Police will continue to be out in force on Gold Coast roads in anticipation for large crowds ahead of two upcoming long weekends.
