What do you do when a dog attacks you?

A Gold Coast bride-to-be has been savagely mauled by a dog at an off-leash dog park just weeks out from her wedding.

Jacob Thirkettle said his fiance Isabelle Payne and their miniature dachshund Lola were both “attacked unprovoked and mauled by a bull terrier” earlier this week.

He said his fiance was attacked while trying to save their beloved pooch.

Ms Payne suffered multiple bite wounds, grazes and cuts across her body and to her fingers.

Lola sustained a large wound to her back and had to undergo surgery.

Both are recovering from their injuries.

Mr Thirkettle launched an online fundraising page after the horrific attack.

“Seven weeks out from our wedding, one of the worst possible things happened to Lola our three-year-old miniature dachshund and Isabelle my fiance,” he wrote.

“They were both attacked unprovoked and mauled by a bull terrier while at an off-leash dog park on the Gold Coast and my fiance was very badly injured trying to extract Lola from its grip.”

Mr Thirkettle said Lola would have died if his fiance did not intervene.

“We’re so grateful to the members of the community who we don’t know that came to their rescue,” he said.

“Lola’s operation went well but she still has a long journey ahead with her recovery and it’s early days.”

He said any money raised from the fundraising page would go towards future vet bills and Lola’s ongoing recovery.

More than $2000 had been raised for the family by Saturday afternoon.
