AN EMPTY shopfront will be transformed into a microbrewery bar and restaurant in the heart of Surfers Paradise.
BOB (Best of Beers) will be created on the corner of Elkhorn and Orchid Aves with the 618sq m former clothing shop given a high-end fit-out.
It has been put forward by Melbourne-based developer Manjit Singh Uppal.

RAZOR THIN TOWER PLANNED FOR SURFERS PARADISE
The project has been welcomed by business figures who said it would bolster the area’s visitor numbers by tapping into the growing beer tourism market.
Surfers Paradise Licensed Venues Association president Tim Martin said the new spot would provide a new point of difference for the party precinct.
“It is great to have a variety of venues through the precinct and while there will be more competition, it will be great that someone will be offering something a bit different,” he said.
“Hopefully it will be done well so it can be a great tourist offering and draw more numbers into town.

“The last thing we need is more of the same so something different like this will offer people a great time.”
According to documents filed yesterday with the Gold Coast City Council, the hotel and bar would operate from 10am to 3am, seven days a week.
It will also offer outdoor dining.
“This creates a vibrant and activated street frontage and public realm,” a planning report on the project said.
SIGNS OF LIFE IN $1B DEVELOPMENT
“The interior fit out features natural looking materials such as timber and stone which contrast with modern architectural features and bold colours centred around the bar and the walls. “These features are softened with indoor plants and large bi-fold windows to create indoor outdoor integration and flow.”
It is the latest in a string of restaurant and brewery developments proposed across the city in the past year.
In February an application was made for a “funky’ new brewery in a former smash repair shop at Miami.
Figures released by Destination Gold Coast earlier this year showed 287,000 Australians visited the Gold Coast for its growing brewing industry annually.
This particular tourism market spends “significantly more” on travel, averaging $6300 a year. This is 27 per cent higher than the national average.

City planning boss Cr Cameron Caldwell said BOB would be a welcome addition to Surfers Paradise.
“This kind of boutique offering is exactly what the market is looking for and it will add to the vibrancy of Surfers Paradise,” he said.
“New venues can play a role in revitalising an area and creating a sense of excitement for locals and tourists alike.”
